Souchaj has created exceptionally classic and elegant designs inspired by Pakistan’s culture and heritage. In recent years, it has created waves for featuring eminent personalities wearing their ensembles in their brilliant photo shoots. Within a short span of time, it leads to the label winning acclaim.
The two designers behind the Souchaj, Mehr Khan and Mehak Malik, talk about their evolution of the fashion label and their future vision for Souchaj.
How did you come together on your design journey?
We already know other for almost a decade. As of before, we were not the partners in this journey. But we have the ideas! So, our husbands encourage us to join hands and bring out ideas into sketches and create art.
How have you worked when you have your own label “Souchaj”?
Souchaj is inspired by our rich tradition, culture, and heritage and therefore, we have launched bridal couture and luxury formal wear in the past two years. As the name itself stands for pure (Soucha) and perfection and love for finesse (Chajj), we continued to develop not only in design and creativity but also our systems and procedures more refined and professional.
What have you learned from your life?
We have learned there are lessons in each and every mistake you did. Even if the things go wrong, we didn’t stop trying but keeping up the good work.
Who inspired you in the field of fashion and designing as your designs are incredible, so we think there must be someone with whom you get inspiration?
Our traditional Pakistani roots lead us to the idea of Souchaj. Creativity has no limits. We derive inspiration from each and everything around us. The sculptures and paintings inspired us a lot. We use exotic rich colors featuring luxe fabric. So, everything in nature is our inspiration. It’s not just one person or a thing that makes us inspired. It’s basically a combo of different elements, big or small, that matters.
In the next five years, where you see Souchaj?
We aim that our label would be globally recognized with its originality and purity. And, we desire that the beautiful name of our label “Souchaj” will only be spoken by the upper echelons of the fashion industry.
What do you think about the current Pakistani fashion aesthetics?
Our Pakistani consumers are fashion savvy and they are completely updated with the latest trends in fashion around the globe. But, they value their traditional Pakistani culture and heritage.
Who would you like to wear your designs from history (living or deceased)?
Queen Rania of Jordan who is the most stylish royals in the world.
Name your favorite international designers?
Most favorite ones are Naeem Khan and Ellie Saab.

As local designers, we appreciate the work of Misha Lakhani, Zara Shahjahan, and Elan.
What do you think about running a business with a sister?
Our friendship bond has become stronger than before. We work as a team and there lie no formalities. We have become more open to each other. Our relationship goes stronger day by day.
